About this event
Charlotte-area voters will soon have their say on an important transportation funding measure. On November 4, 2025, Mecklenburg County residents will vote on whether to enact a one-cent local sales tax, earmarked for roadways and public transportation, including buses, rail, and micro-transit.
The specific ballot question is as follows: "Shall a one-cent ($.01) countywide sales and use tax be levied in Mecklenburg County for the purposes of funding public transportation and road projects?"
To help members learn more, the League will host its second “Evening with the League” Community Conversation on the 2025 Mecklenburg Countywide Transportation Sales Tax Referendum. Join us on October 9 for a panel discussion featuring local experts.
Panelists:
Mark Jerrell, Board of Mecklenburg County Commissioners Chair; David Howard, former Charlotte City Council, Federal Highway Administration, Deputy Chief Secretary of NCDOT; Brent Cagle, CEO of CATS; and, Ted Volskay, Scientist, Environment Expert and LWVCM Environment and Sustainability Action Team Lead
Moderator: Susan Harden, former County Commissioner and LWVCM Treasurer
